Hackney Historic Buildings Trust is an established
Buildings Preservation Trust that has rescued a number of derelict
and ‘at risk’ buildings in Hackney and restored, refurbished
and found new uses for them.
The Round Chapel
The
Trust owns the main chapel building of The Round Chapel, Lower
Clapton Road, a Grade II* non-conformist chapel, which was
given by The United Reform Church to the Trust in a derelict
condition in 1991.The Trust raised almost £1 million
from English Heritage and other bodies to repair and conserve
the whole complex, including the part retained by the church.
It now runs The Round Chapel as an arts and community venue,
hosting arts events and hiring out the hall for a wide variety
of functions. The Trust also owns the adjoining Chapel Keeper’s
Cottage, which is let on a short-hold tenancy.

St. Augustine's Tower
St. Augustine's Tower
is Hackney's oldest building, having survived when the rest
of the original parish church was demolished in 1798. A familiar
landmark, it stands in the centre of the ancient village of
Hackney, and appears on the Borough’s coat of arms. It is
listed Grade I, and is therefore in the top 2% of buildings
listed in the country.
