The virtual reality reconstruction has been created using surviving plans, maps, drawings and engravings from the Hackney Archives Department. The recreation is as accurate as possible, and gives the viewer a clear idea of how the old church looked:
The old Hackney Church had its own organ, which would have been in the gallery immediately in front of the church tower. This was built in 1666 and repaired several times in the 18th century. Some of the pipes from this organmay have been re-used in the organ supplied to the present St. John at Hackney church, which was destroyed in the fire of 1956. However no records or drawings survive of the organ in the Old Church, and it has been left out of the virtual reality reconstruction on this web site.
